EYEFIYFACTORY NOTES

A public record of absorbed problems

Every note traces to a real order or a real bench session, written by the person who handled it. Customers appear by role and city, never by name; factories by Wenzhou sub-region. The numbers are not rounded for effect.

Lens in, then the barrel On a frame with an acetate rim around a metal one, the acetate is tumbled after it is cut. Tumbled empty, the rim shrinks 0.1 to 0.2 mm and stops meeting the metal cleanly. A lens fitted before the barrel holds the opening. WENZHOU — HENRY Both high, or both low A batch came in with its endpieces set at different heights. Both endpieces high passes. Both low passes. One of each does not, because the line is drawn on whether left matches right, not on the height itself. WENZHOU — HENRY The millimetres bill you twice A brand sent a front view and asked us to match it. The reference needed 8.0mm acetate against a 6.0mm stock ceiling, and the same millimetres that make a frame read as expensive are the ones sitting on someone's nose all afternoon. WENZHOU — SEAN Three sizes is three models A founder asked whether S, M and L count as one model or three against a 300 per model minimum. Each size carries its own tooling, jigs, fixtures and setup, so an order that looks comfortably large can divide three ways into three that are not. WENZHOU — SEAN Where the colour sits When a brand sends a reference frame to match, it is almost always acetate. What a moulded copy cannot carry is not the shape. It is whether the colour was sprayed onto the surface or was inside the material before anyone cut it. WENZHOU — SEAN Where the force goes A hinge that clamps acetate with one screw on a small face will loosen. Two redraws fix it — and the better one moves the load off the end piece entirely. WENZHOU — HENRY Two rivets, not one Three metal logos fell off a 600-unit order. The cause was one rivet where the bend needs two — a few cents of savings against a four-figure claim. OUHAI — HENRY The wrong production line An order spec'd at the factory's highest grade came off its volume line. Of roughly 1,600 frames inspected, three to four hundred were clean. The batch did not ship as it stood. WENZHOU — HENRY

If these problems sound like the ones your orders keep hitting, that is not a coincidence.

They are the standard failure modes of this industry. Absorbing them is the job.
